Plan & Adapt
Co-Design
2 days of cocreation session with a diverse group of participants representing the NGO ecosystem.
Approach
The preparation of the workshop included moments with different dynamics: theoretical moments, focused on presenting the Design Thinking approach, tools and techniques to the participants. And practical moments, with group activities that allowed for discussion and reflection on the contexts of each of the challenges, taking into account the different scenarios and user profiles.
To co-create the five initiatives that will guide PLAN Brasil's new positioning, the workshop brought together PLAN Brasil staff and board members, girls who benefit from the NGO's programmes, feminist influencers in the media, partner companies and donors. The diversity of perspectives, opinions and experiences that the participants brought to the teams made it possible to approach each challenge in a broader way, which enriched the discussions and increased the possibilities for solutions.
The multidisciplinary team was involved in the complete development of the project, from understanding the contexts of the challenges, to the ideation, prototyping and validation stage of the solutions developed, with the mindset of experimentation throughout the process.
The project involved understanding the NGO and the context of girls and women in Brazil and, based on this and using the Design Thinking approach, preparing a theoretical and practical content to conduct a 16 hours cocreation session, which took place in 2 following days at São Paulo in July 2018.

5 new service offerings for donors and beneficieries
Results
The project led to the creation of 5 new solutions, which consisted on new service offerings and proposals for the improvement of the stakeholders journey with the NGO:
. The concept of the digital platform MeninasLíderes.com
. Redesign of the current NGO donors’ journey
. A new way for selling PLAN's products and projects
. The creation of a fund to support initiatives led by girls across Brazil
. A recognition program for private companies that engage in actions to guarantee gender equality in the corporate sector.
All solutions were in line with the purpose of PLAN International Brazil, in providing a fairer and more equitable future for all girls and women in the country.
‘Working with Livework was extremely important in helping us to think outside of the box, in a structured way. Essential for this moment we're living!’
-Cynthia Betti, Executive Director of PLAN International Brazil

-Ana Nery, PLAN Brasil employee
‘[The partnership with Livework] was very important because it allowed us to broaden our vision of project construction. It was great to be able to have the vision of people other than PLAN to give us more input on issues we didn't know about before.’
The power of co-design
Food for thought
The main learning of this project was the power of co-design. By inviting a diverse group of NGO ecosystem representatives to seat in the same table the potential of cocreating solutions that deliver true value for both donors and beneficieries were expanded. Having beneficiaries and donors actively participating in the research and co-creation phases definitely sped up the concept and implementation discussion. Besides experiencing and enhancing the pillars of design approach: empathy and collaboration, with the mindset of experimentation throughout this process.
